Henrietta is an Ameraucana hen with a story of incredible resilience and heart. She came to Keeper’s Haven Animal Sanctuary after surviving a traumatic dog attack on a small local farm. Injured, frightened, and missing large patches of feathers, her owner knew Henrietta would need specialized care and compassion to heal—both physically and emotionally—and reached out to us for help. When Henrietta arrived, walking, perching, and putting weight on her injured leg were nearly impossible. We gave her time to settle, decompress, and feel safe before beginning her recovery journey. During her assessment, she was paired with one of our sheep residents, Van Gogh, who is also a survivor of a brutal dog attack. From the very beginning, Van Gogh took on the role of protector, quietly watching over Henrietta and offering her a calm, steady presence. That gentle friendship became a turning point. With Van Gogh by her side, Henrietta began short walking sessions and practiced gripping different perches to rebuild her strength, balance, and confidence. She also receives MagnaWave PEMF therapy to support healing and comfort throughout her recovery. Today, Henrietta can walk, run, and fully enjoy life again. She spends much of her time with her best friend Van Gogh—sharing sheep- and chicken-friendly snacks, cleaning crumbs from his face, and curling up together for naps and relaxation. Their bond is a beautiful reminder of how animals can heal one another. Henrietta has blossomed into a joyful, spirited hen with a big personality. She’s very talkative, endlessly curious, loves to play games, and is exceptionally friendly with those around her. We are so grateful to have been able to provide Henrietta with the safe haven she needed to heal, grow, and thrive.
